NASHVILLE - Senate Republicans' hopes of finding another bill to create a school voucher program in light of Republican Gov. Bill Haslam's withdrawal of his plan aren't sitting well with GOP House Speaker Beth Harwell.

"I think the governor made it clear all along that he had done a lot of research on voucher programs across the nation and wanted to develop one right for Tennessee," Harwell said today. "He thought that he did that and made it clear that if we tried to broaden it, he was going to pull his bill and he's done that."

She said "as far as trying to do something [use another bill], it's a little late to be doing that right now. I would feel like we would have to go back to the Education Committee and be fully vetted."
