Alabama cyclist struck by car, killed on Natchez Trace Parkway

RAYMOND, Miss. - Federal and Mississippi authorities are investigating the death of an Alabama bicyclist who was struck and killed by a car on Natchez Trace Parkway near the historic Battle of Raymond site.

Natchez Trace Parkway Chief Ranger Sarah Davis told The Clarion-Ledger 52-year-old George Wimberley, of Bay Minette, was pronounced dead at the scene. Davis says Wimberley was riding his bicycle on the Parkway around 5:45 p.m. Tuesday when he was struck by a car driven by 52-year-old Norris Edney, of Clinton.

Hinds County Coroner Sharon Grisham-Stewart said Wimberley died of multiple blunt-force trauma injuries.

Davis says the investigation is expected to take several weeks. She says the results will be passed on to the U.S. attorney's office in Jackson, which will determine whether charges will be filed.
