Suspected fire on Manufacturers Road turns out to be steam leak

April 13th, 2013 by Staff Report in Local - Breaking News

Chattanooga firefighters and the Chattanooga Fire Department Hazardous Materials team were called to 710 Manufacturers Road around 8:30 pm on what was initially thought to be a pipeline rupture involving hazardous materials.

Initial calls from people in the area indicated there was an odor of methane, but when firefighters arrived it was quickly determined to be a steam line that is used to heat a tar mix that is used in paving industry.

Battalion Chief Lesley Morgan advised that the firefighters checked the area for hazards and determined there was no danger.

The property owner was contacted and was called to the scene to shut off the boilers that control the steam lines.
