Chattanooga: East Lake home heavily damaged by fire

The Chattanooga Fire Department responded to a fire at an East Lake home this afternoon, according to a news release.

The call came in at 1:39 p.m. with five fire companies responding to the scene at 3100 14th Ave.

Upon arrival, the firefighters found a large section of the house engulfed in flames, according to Battalion Chief Lesley Morgan.

Chief Morgan said it took firefighters about 20 minutes to control the blaze.

The fire caused substantial damage to the home, the release said, but the residents were not home when the fire broke out and no injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
