Woman struck, killed by street sweeper in Macon

MACON, Ga. - Macon police are investigating after a woman was struck and killed by a street sweeper.

Police say the collision happened shortly after 1 a.m. today.

Police say she was wearing all black clothing. They say the collision happened in an area with no street lighting, in the far right west-bound lane of Eisenhower Parkway. She was taken to the Medical Center of Central Georgia, where she was pronounced dead.

Police said in a statement this morning that they were still working to identify her. She was carrying no identification with her, though she does have two distinctive tattoos: "Derrick" on her left arm and "Shay" on her right arm. She's described as a black female.

Police said the operator of the street sweeping vehicle is not being charged at this time.
