Former Mocs golfer Steven Fox won the Tennessee State Amateur championship on Friday afternoon at the Chattanooga Golf & Country Club.

Fox, the reigning U.S. Amateur Champion, shot a 10-under 270 through four rounds including a 3-under 67 on Friday. He topped defending champion Tim Jackson and former Baylor School golfer Keith Mitchell by five shots.

Fox eliminated drama down the stretch with birdies on No. 16 and No. 17. He concluded the tournament by hitting a long bunker shot on the final hole to within three inches of the cup.

Fox is departing Saturday to try and defend his U.S. Amateur championship at The Country Club in Brookline, Mass. beginning on Monday.
