Suspect arrested minutes after downtown bank robbery

KNOXVILLE - Federal authorities are praising Knoxville police for their quick work in arresting a man this afternoon on charges of robbing a downtown bank minutes earlier.

Nicholas Wayne Sandlin, 62, was arrested by Knoxville police in the armed robbery reported at 1:58 p.m. at the Clayton Bank branch, 620 Market St., according to a news release from the FBI.

Sandlin appeared this afternoon before a federal magistrate judge.
