3 Georgia schools near Savannah, Ga., on lockdown as manhunt continues

SAVANNAH, Ga. - Authorities say three schools near Savannah were on lockdown status as a precaution while police searched the area for a child abuse suspect.

Police said they had reason to believe the 40-year-old suspect was on Whitemarsh Island today, so they placed Islands High School, Coastal Middle School and Marshpoint Elementary School on lockdown. Residents of the Merritt condominiums were also told to take precautions.

Police said the suspect is wanted in connection with sexual abuse of a 13-year-old girl. Police said he's wearing a white shirt, jeans and camouflage hat. Police tell WTOC-TV that he has a violent criminal history and should be considered dangerous.
