Chase through Weakley County, Tenn., nets arrest

MARTIN, Tenn. - It wasn't exactly a high-speed chase, but it covered nearly 20 miles and resulted in the arrest of a West Tennessee man.

Weakley County authorities say it began when a deputy stopped to check on a pickup beside Highway 45 north of Sharon on Tuesday. The officer saw 35-year-old Wesley Hatchel of Martin in the cab and spotted an active methamphetamine lab.

WCMT Radio reported Investigator Marty Plunk said Hatchel reached under the seat and tried to pull out a tire iron. Plunk fired once and Hatchel drove away, but not before the officer shot out a rear tire.

Hatchel was driving between 45-55 mph when a Dresden police officer put a round through the truck radiator. Eventually, Hatchel rammed a Greenfield police car and was surrounded.
