Manchester, Tenn., cheesemaker MDS Foods plans new plant

MANCHESTER, Tenn. - Cheesemaker MDS Foods Inc. plans to build an expanded production facility in Manchester.

The Tullahoma News reports that a 58,000-square-foot facility will be constructed over two phases. Coffee County industrial board executive director Ted Hackney says employment is expected to grow from 41 to about 70 in the next few years.

MDS brands include Amish Classics, Santino and Madison Valley Farms brand cheeses, and the Massillon, Ohio-based company also supplies the food service industry. Besides the production facility in Manchester, the company also has a distribution center in La Vergne.

Plant superintendent Tim Gibbs told the paper that the new facility will be reconfigured to meet work flow and operating needs. Gibbs said the company is "bursting at the seams" at the location it currently leases.
