WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Police say one student was wounded in a shooting at a North Carolina high school and that another student is in custody as a suspect
A statement from police said officers responded to a shooting report about 2:30 p.m. Friday at Carver High School. It is on the northeast side of Winston-Salem. The report came just over an hour before classes would have been dismissed.
Winston-Salem Police Chief Barry Rountree said at a news conference that the school was conducting a fire drill at the time.
Police said the wounded student was taken to a hospital with what they described as non-life threatening injuries.
Neither the suspect nor the victim has been identified.
The high school of 700 students was on lockdown for two hours and postponed its home football game.
