ETOWAH, Tenn. - An armed man who confronted Etowah police Monday night died after being shot by two officers at the 800 block of Highway 411, north of Highway 30.

According to a Tennessee Bureau of Investigation statement, the man was later identified as 49-year-old David Greenwood. He was being sought as a person of interest after a woman was found dead inside a burned house in Robertson County, Tenn., on Sunday.

TBI officials said today that an Etowah officer tried to pull Greenwood over for a traffic violation Monday night at the intersection of Highway 30 and Highway 411. Greenwood reportedly backed into the police cruiser and led police on a brief chase before confronting them and being shot. He was taken to the UT Medical Center in Knoxville, where he died.

TBI agents are investigating the incident, which is standard procedure following an officer-involved shooting.
