Tennessee woman accused of stealing $200K in phone card scam

SPRINGFIELD, Tenn. - A Robertson County woman accused of stealing more than $200,000 in a phone card scheme has been arrested.

According to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, 21-year-old Alexandrea Petty of Springfield was able to activate stolen Straightalk phone cards at times when the activation system was down by acting like a Wal-Mart supervisor.

Once the cards were activated, Petty sold them or returned them to Wal-Mart.

The loss to Wal-Mart is approximately $18,000 for the returned cards. Tracfone, which owns Straightalk, lost nearly $215,000 for the falsely activated minutes.

Petty was taken into custody on Monday and booked into the Robertson County Jail.

Jail records did not indicate whether she has an attorney, and no number was listed for her in the phone directory.
