The plans for one of the biggest developments Chattanooga has ever seen are set to be revealed at a public meeting Thursday, Dec. 5 from 6-8 p.m. at Hixson United Methodist Church.
The $100 million development proposed off Highway 153 near Boy Scout Road was rejected by the City Council last January, but many changes have been made to the plans and none of the Council members who voted to deny the development remain on the Council.
Developer Duane Horton has participated in a series of meetings with a committee composed of community members set up by city councilmen Chip Henderson, Ken Smith and Jerry Mitchell, who represent the area where Horton hopes to build the development.
"Our goal was to address all the concerns they had and allow Mr. Horton or the city to address those concerns," Henderson said of the committee members. "They seem to be satisfied with the shape this thing took."
Committee members' concerns included traffic, stormwater runoff and transparency of communication between the developer and the community.
"It's time to take it to the community and present it to them," Henderson said of the revised plans, which take into account the concerns posed by the committee. "They can see firsthand what the new project is all about and ask any questions they might have."
The Chattanooga-Hamilton County Regional Planning Agency and the City Council must still approve Horton's new plans before the development moves forward.
