Hatchet-wielding man fatally shot by Selma, Ala., police

SELMA, Ala. - The Alabama Bureau of Investigation is probing a fatal police-involved shooting in Selma.

Selma Police Chief William Riley says a hatchet-wielding man was fatally shot by police Wednesday afternoon.

Riley says police were responding to a disorderly conduct call at a Church's Chicken restaurant when the man rushed at them with the hatchet.

The officer who fired the shot will be placed on paid administrative leave while state officials investigate the shooting.

The identity of the slain man hasn't been released.
