The man who died in a shootout with police in Etowah, Tenn., Monday night has been named the suspect in the slaying of his girlfriend, Kim Moran.
David Greenwood's home in the Pleasant View community of Cheatham County burned over the weekend, and investigators found Maron dead inside. Earlier this week, Robertson County sheriff's officials said it was unclear how Moran died.
But now they are labeling Moran's death a homicide and Greenwood, 49, a suspect.
According to a preliminary report from the Robertson County medical examiner's office, Moran died from a gunshot wound.
Greenwood became a person of interest after deputies found his burned home and dead girlfriend, but he was nowhere around. Then Monday night, he turned up in Etowah -- 200 miles south of Pleasant View -- and he got in a firefight with police in the 800 block of U.S. Highway 411.
No Etowah officers were hit, but Greenwood sustained fatal injuries. He died at UT Medical Center in Knoxville.
"Though his death complicates the investigation, detectives will continue their work looking into the homicide until the investigation is complete," a Robertson County Sheriff's Office release stated.
