Man convicted 11 years after rape of Tennessee teen

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Eleven years after a Tennessee high school student was sexually assault, her attacker has been convicted.

The Commercial Appeal reports Jerald Jefferson was convicted of aggravated rape last Friday.

The incident happened Oct. 4, 2002, when the victim - then 16 years old - was abducted from the Trezevant High campus by three men. They forced her into a car, put a pillowcase over her head and drove to another location, where the girl was raped. The victim testified she was later thrown from the car.

A rape kit was prepared but wasn't tested until two years later when the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation received a grant to test kits in cases where there were no suspects.

Nothing was matched until 2010, when Jefferson's DNA matched that of the rapist.
