National Weather Service lifts winter weather advisory for north Alabama

FLORENCE, Ala. - The National Weather Service has canceled a winter weather advisory for north Alabama, but many schools are still opening late.

Forecasters canceled the advisory after conditions changed and there weren't widespread problems with freezing rain, sleet and snow early today.

But numerous schools across the region already had planned to open late because of the possibility of slick roads. Many followed through with those plans.

Forecasters say drier air is moving into the Tennessee Valley, and temperatures will struggle to get out of the 30s in north Alabama.

Temperatures will be in the 40s and 50s in central and south Alabama, and rain chances are diminishing.
