Two of nine dogs in a house at 3708 Sixth Ave. in East Lake died this afternoon in a fire.

The Chattanooga Fire Department reported that fire crews quickly responded to a report of the fire and that the blaze was quickly extinguished.

Firefighters were able to save seven dogs inside the house.

No one was at home when firefighters arrived. Later the residents, including Steven Kittle, arrived shortly after the fire had been put out.

The fire was contained to two rooms but there was smoke throughout the house.

A release said that volunteers with the American Red Cross of Southeast Tennessee were called to give assistance to Kittle and the two other adults living at the house.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, the release said.
