Chattanooga firefighters responded to the north end of the Walnut Street bridge shortly after 10 p.m. Monday night after a woman was reported in the water, according to a news release.

Battalion Chief Lesley Morgan and the fireboat were dispatched to locate the woman. She was discovered downstream about 2,500 feet below the bridge after Park Ranger Daryl Nelson heard her voice.

Park Police and Chattanooga police held onto the woman from a barge until the fireboat arrived.

She was taken by boat to Ross's Landing and then transported to the hospital for treatment.
