Hutcheson Medical Center today reported that the Fort Oglethorpe hospital earned an overall profit in January.

Hutcheson generated a $416,681 profit last month, which is a $51,370 improvement over budget and a $1.4 million improvement over January 2012, according to a news release.

"We are happy with our sustained progress," Roger Forgey, hospital president and CEO, said in the release. "Year to date, we are ahead of budget and on our way to a positive fiscal year."

Members of Hutcheson's budget and finance committee discussed the January financials earlier today.

Compared to last year, total inpatient discharges were up 22 percent, hospital patient census was up 42 percent, total surgeries were up 17 percent, and visits to the Fuller Cancer Center were up 11 percent, the news release stated.

Hutcheson began its fiscal year in October.
