MONTGOMERY, Ala. - A new national study says Alabama's Creek Indian casinos have experienced record-setting growth for the fourth year due to the state's crackdown on privately operated casino.
The Indian Gaming Industry Report by Casino City said today revenue for Alabama's Indian casinos grew by 26.4 percent in 2011. That was the fourth straight year where Alabama led the nation in revenue growth for Indian gambling. Report author Alan Meister said the Poarch Band of Creek Indians increased the number of gambling machines it operated at its Montgomery, Atmore and Wetumpka casinos by 28 percent in 2011. The machines totaled 4,200 at year's end. He said the Creeks expanded their Montgomery casino in 2011 and are now expanding their Wetumpka operation.
The report does not include dollar figures due to confidentiality agreements.
