The first day of spring is just around the corner, but winter doesn't look like it'll give up.

Cooler temperatures - below normal - will sweep into the region this week, according to Derek Eisentrout, National Weather Service meteorologist in Morristown, Tenn.

"Wind from the northwest is ushering in much, much colder air through the end of the work week and into the weekend," he said.

Temperatures are expected to drop into the low 40s by Sunday, with lows remaining in the 30s.

"There's a persistent chance of precipitation through the end of the week," Eisentrout said.

Wednesday could see some light rain or possibly snow, depending on the temperatures. Thursday is expected to be dry, but by Friday night there are more chances of light rain possibly mixed with snow through Sunday.

Forecasters don't expect any accumulation, but higher elevations could see some slick spots.

No serious travel troubles are anticipated, though, according to Verona Murrell, NWS meteorologist in Peachtree City, Ga.

Monday, highs are expected to reach into the upper 40s, climbing into the lower 50s by Tuesday.
