A Tullahoma man charged early last week with carjacking now faces added charges of rape, robbery, kidnapping and aggravated assault in connection with an attack on a woman on New Year's Day.

Manchester, Tenn., Police Department officials say Billy Joe Nelson, 31, of Tullahoma, is being held in the Coffee County Jail on $1.25 million bond in connection with the combined five counts against him. Each of the counts carried a $250,000 bond, Butler said.

He is accused of attacking, abducting and assaulting a 38-year-old local woman who had fallen asleep in her car at a local tavern and was awakened by Nelson, police said.

Nelson faces a date in Coffee County General Sessions Court on Jan. 10, officials said.
