Anita Ebersole turns down Chattanooga city court clerk job

Anita Ebersole, deputy to Mayor Ron Littlefield, told council members today that she did not want to be considered for the appointment as City Court clerk.

"I don't want to put any council member in the position of voting for me or against me," she said.

The issue arose over the weekend when Littlefield placed Ebersole's name on the agenda to be approved by the City Council as court clerk. Ebersole makes $95,000 annually and would have made the same pay as court clerk.

Both city judges protested the move, saying Ebersole did not have any experience within the court system.

The city currently has an interim court clerk - Jan Turner - conducting business.

Turner has led the operation for four and a half years at half the salary.
