Shawn Peek didn't have to go far to find his next coaching job. The former North Jackson football coach has been named the new head coach at his alma mater Pisgah, which is in the same county as his former school.

"It's an area I'm real familiar with obviously so I was glad to get the opportunity to stay close to home," Peek said. "I played on the same team as the dads of some of the kids that are here now. I appreciate the opportunity and once we get our staff lined up, we're going to try to give the folks in Pisgah something to be proud of."

When Peek resigned at North Jackson in early January four of his assistants stepped down as well and each could be candidates to join his staff at Pisgah.

Peek, a 1985 Pisgah graduate, was head coach at North Jackson the past five seasons, compiling a 50-13 overall record that included two undefeated regular seasons, two appearances in Alabama's Class 4A quarterfinals and one trip to the semifinals. The Chiefs finished 7-5 last season, losing in the second round to eventual state runner-up Oneonta.

Last year Pisgah, which competes in Class 3A, finished 3-7. Peek was a starting linebacker on the 1983 Pisgah team that recorded eight shutouts and gave up just 51 total points all season to finish 11-1.
