Hixson road work moving forward

Chattanooga District 3 City Councilman Ken Smith said the issue he is currently receiving the most calls about from his constituents is road work in the Hixson area.

A July 8 start date has been set for the repaving of Hamill Road from Cassandra Smith to Adams roads, he added.

"They'll be doing it in sections to minimize road closures," said Smith.

The 10-day bid process for the road project at Lake Resort Drive is in its final week, he said.

"Hopefully the bid will be awarded next week," with road work starting shortly thereafter, said Smith.

Highway 27 update

The Tennessee Department of Transportation has executed a traffic change to move northbound traffic to what will be the future southbound side, said Ken Flynn, TDOT director of operations.

Work is continuing on widening the bridges over Elmwood Drive as well as by the Dayton Boulevard exit ramp.

Flynn said the northbound exit ramp to Dayton Boulevard will eventually be closed for construction late this year or early next year, and traffic will have to be detoured to other exits.

Workers are currently excavating the new lanes and constructing bridges and a retaining wall near Signal Mountain Boulevard.

This month, workers will begin clearing the hillside under Channel 3 and The Pinnacle apartment building to start wall work, he said.
