A 9-year-old girl died in an early morning accident that shut down Interstate 24 eastbound in Chattanooga for several hours this morning.

An SUV struck the barrier and overturned around 4:22 a.m., according to a news release from the Chattanooga Police Department.

There were two adults and three juveniles in the SUV, according to the release. The 9-year-old girl reportedly was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle. She later died from her injuries at a hospital.
