BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Crews are spending the weekend repairing a section of Interstate 20/59 in Birmingham.
A hole formed July 4 in a northbound lane of the interstate near the Red Mountain Expressway east of downtown.
Workers covered the hole with a steel plate, but it's now being repaired permanently.
The Alabama Department of Transportation says two northbound lanes of I-20/59 will be closed through the weekend started at the 23rd Street entrance ramp.
Traffic could be slow going through Birmingham in the direction of Atlanta.
