Man arrested in Tuscaloosa, Ala., shooting that killed child

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Tuscaloosa police say a 23-year-old man has been arrested in a shooting that left a 4-year-old girl hospitalized.

Police Sgt. Dale Phillips said Monday that Kendrick Lakeith Hyche was arrested for shooting at a house and wounding a girl in her head and right arm while she slept.

Phillips says witness interviews and examination of physical evidence led to the man's arrest.

Authorities have said the gunshots were intended for someone else living in the house where the girl was shot. Police have said the girl was hospitalized in critical condition at Children's of Alabama in Birmingham.

Hyche is being held on $120,000 bond in the Tuscaloosa County jail. It's unclear if he has an attorney. He's charged with attempted murder, assault and firing a weapon into an occupied building.
