DVD for Chattanooga-filmed '42' is released today

The DVD for "42," the movie about baseball great Jackie Robinson that was partly filmed in Chattanooga, is being released today.

For filming, massive renovations were made to Engel Stadium, which stood in for several baseball parks in the film.

The movie starred Chadwick Boseman as Robinson and Harrison Ford as Branch Rickey, executive with the Brooklyn Dodgers. In 1942, Robinson joined the Dodgers, becoming the first black player in Major League history.

Robinson would be selected as Rookie of the Year in 1947, the first year the award was given, won the National League Most Valuable Player Award in 1949 and played in six consecutive All-Star games.

The film "42" was released on April 12, three days before Robinson officially joined the Dodgers in 1942. To date, it has earned almost $93 million, according to boxofficemojo.com.
