American Legion Post 62 seeks help with cleaning flooded building in South Pittsburg

American Legion Post 62 is asking people in the South Pittsburg, Tenn., area to help clean up the flooded South Pittsburg post at 300 Elm Ave.

Daniel Hobson, youngest member of the South Pittsburg American Legion, said Thursday that volunteers and Legionnaires still are battling water from last week's flooding. "Mold is starting to set in really bad," he said.

Hobson said most of the Legionnaires are too old to do the physical labor required to clean the building. He said volunteers are needed who can tear out wooden walls, clean mold out of duct work and do general cleaning around the facility.

"The American Legion here is in a pretty bad state of affairs," he said.

Hobson said Thursday that a new estimation put the monetary damage at $18,000 in the nearly 100-year-old building.

All donations and questions can be directed to the post adjutant, George Ison, at gison89@yahoo.com or 847-638-6455.
