Police say a Rossville man sexually assaulted a 10-year-old girl on several occasions.

Chattanooga officers arrested 25-year-old Daniel Andrew Hendley on Wednesday night in an alleged attack that happened a week ago. Police charged Hendley with aggravated sexual battery and child rape.

As of Friday afternoon, Hendley remained in the Hamilton County Jail in lieu of a $900,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear before Hamilton County General Sessions Court Judge Gary Starnes at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Hendley also was arrested in 2009 on a statutory rape charge, according to court records. He pleaded guilty and, as result, went on probation for one year.

On July 7, a woman walked into her daughter's room and found Hendley in bed with the 10-year-old, according to police. The woman said Hendley quickly jumped away from the girl, and that seemed suspicious.

The woman called police, according to an affidavit, and Hendley ran away. Later, during an interview at the Children's Advocacy Center, the girl said Hendley began sexually abusing her about a year ago.

Earlier this month, Hendley allegedly forced the girl to have oral sex, according to police.

On July 7, the girl told Hendley she wanted to play with his cellphone, so he stuffed it inside his underwear, according to the affidavit. You want it, he told the girl, you have to get it, the affidavit states.

And then, police say, Hendley grabbed the girl and abused her again, and that's when the girl's mother walked in, and that's when Hendley jumped away from the girl.

Officers still are investigating other allegations of abuse involving Hendley and the girl.
