4 killed in crash on I-40 in Tennessee's Henderson County

LEXINGTON, Tenn. - The Tennessee Highway Patrol says four people have been killed in a crash on Interstate 40 after a semi swerved to avoid hitting a cow on the roadway.

Police told WBBJ-TV in Jackson that the driver of the tractor-trailer ended up crossing the median Tuesday night near the 109 mile marker in Henderson County and hit oncoming traffic in the westbound lanes including another semi, a car and an SUV. Police say two people in the truck and two in the SUV were killed. Investigating officer Michael Sullivan confirmed the deaths on Wednesday and said two others were injured in the crash.

The interstate was shut down for a short time, but reopened early today.

Police did not immediately release any other information, including the names of those involved.
