The Tennessee Valley Authority said it will test a new supplemental voice emergency notification system on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The new system is to notify plant personnel at its nuclear facilities.

The new voice system will be battery-powered, capable of operating for up to seven days, and mounted on metal poles that can withstand high winds, a TVA release said.

A truck-mounted speaker system will be used to test the notification system in at least three locations on each site.

Tests around the Watts Barn Nuclear Plant near Spring City, Tenn., will take place from 8 to 10 a.m. on Tuesday while they will be from 1 to 3 p.m. at Sequoyah Nuclear Plant near Soddy-Daisy. Tests at Browns Ferry Nuclear Plant in Alabama will be on Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. CDT.

TVA said it plans to move forward with a permanent installation at all three TVA nuclear sites beginning in early 2014.
