A group of nursing professors at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, is embarking on a study to determine the end-of-life needs for people living with AIDS in the Appalachian regions of Tennessee and Alabama.
According to the school, the two-year-study will use one-on-one interviews and a survey to examine factors that influence end-of-life needs, including access to health services, poverty, unemployment, geography, access to insurance and education.
The team will determine which services are available to patients and what interventions are needed to fill the gaps.
The research team has received an award from the National Institute of Nursing Research of the National Institutes of Health anticipated to total more than $420,000.
