The Hamilton County grand jury has indicted a 34-year-old area man for vehicular homicide in a July 7, 2012, fatal crash.

Roman York was charged in March in the death of Myra Eaker. Police say York was speeding the wrong way down Shallowford Road in a Nissan Titan and collided with Eaker's Buick, knocking it backward.

Eaker died on the scene. The 74-year-old Soddy-Daisy resident was the mother of four and grandmother of five, according to her obituary.

Police had to await blood test results from samples sent to a state crime laboratory before the homicide charge could be heard and sent to the grand jury.

This is at least the second time York has been charged with DUI, according to court records, with the first in 2002. He pleaded guilty to that charge along with charges of harassment, assault, stalking and driving on a suspended license.

Judge Stephen Bevil gave York a suspended sentence in that case, which is common with first-time DUI charges.

In addition to the homicide charge, York faces two counts of reckless aggravated assault and one count of reckless endangerment.

He is scheduled for arraignment on June 21 in Criminal Court Judge Barry Steelman's courtroom.
