The Fort Oglethorpe City Council voted Monday night to appoint Jeff Holcomb as city police chief.

Holcomb has been working as interim chief since the city council cleaned house in March and Chief David Eubanks was fired.

The vote at the council meeting was 3-1 with Councilman Earl Gray casting the dissenting vote.

Gray said he voted against the appointment because he wanted to wait until Eubanks' pending lawsuit was settled before making a decision.

"There's a lot I'd like to say, but unfortunately I can't with all the litigation going on," he said.

Since City Manager Ron Goulart was forced to resign and the city fired Public Works director Jeff Long and Eubanks, a recall group has filed four separate lawsuits against the mayor and four city councilman. Eubanks and Long have filed lawsuits saying they were wrongfully terminated.
