Chattanooga police tonight are saying it could be hours before traffic on Highway 153 returns to normal after an 18-wheeler truck carrying calves overturned near Hamill Road.

The driver of another vehicle involved was transported to a local hospital just after 7:20 p.m., said Chattanooga Police Traffic Sgt. David Gibb. He didn't have any information on the truck's driver

It's unclear what led up to the crash.

None of the calves was ejected from the trailer, but several are dead inside, he said.

"We're working on getting the cattle out of there," he said.

Northbound traffic is completely blocked and traffic is being re-routed to Hamill Road, he said. Two southbound lanes remain open.

The Tennessee Department of Transportation said the blockage is estimated to be cleared by 10 p.m.
