Walker County, Ga., dispatchers say a fire at Happy Valley Farms has destroyed one stable and engulfed another one.

Those at the scene estimate about 40 horses lived in those two stables, and some of them have died. Investigators don't know how many died at this time.

Dispatchers say 40 to 50 firefighters were on the scene early today battling the flames on the second stable. Some walls on the stable are still standing at this time.

No firefighters or anyone else at the scene have been injured, dispatchers say. The cause of the fire is not known, and the county's fire investigators have been notified.

Happy Valley Farms is a breeding ground for show horses that can cost hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Dispatchers say the first calls came in reporting the fire at 8:39 p.m., and the first unit arrived at the scene 10 minutes later.

Rising smoke and flames could be seen from miles away Thursday.
