LibertyFest returns to East Ridge for second year

photo Family-friendly music, kids' activities and lots of food will abound at the second annual LibertyFest celebration.

Family, food and fireworks.

That's how the East Ridge Merchants Association plans to celebrate Independence Day this year. The organization is hosting the second annual LibertyFest Saturday, June 29, an afternoon event dedicated to kids' activities, great food, live music and a huge fireworks display.

"It's a family-friendly, fun, community atmosphere," said ERMA president Linda Stafford. "It's for the community and we want to let them know there's a merchants association out there to help them and provide services."

The gates to this year's festival, which takes place at Camp Jordan, open at 4 p.m. Admission costs $20 per carload of five people.

"There are plenty of things to do all day," said Stafford. "It's a great low-cost event for families."

Live music begins around 5 p.m. Local favorites like Chris McDaniel, Roger Alan Wade and The Stallion Band will take the stage. The headliner performance is by Atlanta Rhythm Section and will be followed by the fireworks display at 10 p.m.

Families are encouraged to bring chairs and plan on enjoying the evening and eating lots of good food, which will include funnel cakes, barbecue, hot dogs, a fish fry, burgers and fries, said Stafford.
