Officer run over, driver from Johnson City arrested after chase

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. - A sheriff's deputy has been treated for injuries and a Johnson City man arrested after police say the driver backed over the officer with his car.

The Johnson City Press (http://bit.ly/1499Rmt ) reported the incident Thursday afternoon set off a police chase through Carter and Washington Counties. Authorities caught 27-year-old Damien Christopher Slocum and arrested him on second offense DUI, aggravated assault of a police officer and other charges. Slocum was held without bond.

Carter County Sheriff Chris Mathes said his deputy, Nick Andes, was taken to a hospital where he was treated for minor injuries. He reportedly had a swollen thigh. Mathes said Andes had stopped Slocum for a minor traffic violation and was checking his license when Slocum jumped back into his car and backed over the deputy.
