NASHVILLE - Fourteen groups have submitted their ideas on how to redraw the Tennessee's 31 judicial districts in anticipation of the first redistricting since 1984, Lt. Gov. Ron Ramsey says.

"The response we have gotten to our public call for judicial district maps is extremely encouraging," Ramsey, the Republican Senate speaker, said in a news release. "I would especially like to commend the Public Defenders Association as well as the Tennessee Bar Association for coming to the table and sharing their ideas."

He said he was disappointed the Trial Judges Association and the District Attorney's General's Conference "refused to consider any changes to the 1984 map." Those groups that did provided input that was "helpful and appreciated," Ramsey said.

Senate Republicans could roll out their proposal as early as next week.
