A Chattanooga Police officer who was shot earlier this evening suffered nonlife-threatening injuries and will be fine, according to department spokesman Sgt. Wayne Jefferson.

The officer, who has not been identified, was shot near East Lake Courts on 4th Avenue. He was responding to a theft call and encountered a disorder of some type, according to police spokesman Master Patrol Officer Nathan Hartwig.

The incident occurred around the 2500 block of 4th Avenue, Hartwig said. A massive manhunt now is under way.
