Volunteer Profile: Boys and Girls Club Leader of the Month

photo Boys and Girls Club Leader of the Month Eddie Jackson helps kids at his unit with an art project. Jackson loves to draw and most enjoys helping in the art room.

Name: Eddie Jackson

Age: 17

What do you do? "When I volunteer I help in the library, help in the kitchen making snacks, help in the gym running games and do special projects."

What is your favorite part of volunteering? "I like volunteering in the art room because it lets me explore myself more because I like to draw, and it lets me be me."

Why do you give back? "I like the feeling. It makes me feel good to know I can use my services to help somebody else and gives me something to do other than sit at home and play video games."

What do you want to do in the future? "I'm planning to go to Chattanooga State and then transfer somewhere else. I want to be a surgeon because I love dissecting things."

What is something others might not know about you? "If I could go anywhere in the world it would be Tokyo. It's a beautiful city and I love their culture."

Why was Eddie nominated? "One of the things that impresses me about Eddie is that he's new to the Boys and Girls Club. For a teen coming for such a short amount of time to have kids look up to him the way a lot of the kids look up to him stood out to me. What I see in him is that he takes it upon himself to be a leader. He puts himself in the leadership role; that's just who he is."
