Fugitive gets off bus, arrested on warrant

KNOXVILLE - Kenneth Wayne Washington hopped off a Greyhound bus in Knoxville and into the waiting arms of a special team of police officers bearing a warrant charging him with murder.

The officers picked up the 32-year-old Washington Wednesday in Knoxville as he stepped off the inbound bus from Louisiana. Police spokesman Darrell DeBusk told the Knoxville News Sentinel officers interviewed Washington about the Nov. 3, 2012 shooting death of 37-year-old Rodney D. Miller, then arrested him on a charge of first-degree murder.

Washington's bond was set at $1 million on the murder charge and he was denied bond on an outstanding charge of failure to appear in court.

DeBusk said no other arrests are expected in connection with Miller's death.

Jail records did not indicate if Washington had an attorney.
