Relatives: Alabama child's slaying may be 'ritual'

GADSDEN, Ala. - Relatives of a slain Alabama toddler say the girl's killing may have been a sacrificial ritual by her father.

Cathy Jackson is an aunt of 20-month-old Maliyah Lindsay. Gadsden police this week charged the girl's father, 35-year-old Stephon Lindsay, with capital murder in her death.

Jackson tells WBMA-TV the girl's father believes in satanic worship. She says the girl's death may have been killed during a ritual sacrifice.

Jackson says the man recently bought long daggers off the Internet. But she calls Lindsay a good father.

Police haven't revealed a possible motive in the slaying, but they have said knives or a sword may have been used in the killing.

Lindsay is bailed without bond, and court records don't show whether he has a lawyer.
