YMCA in Chattanooga to take part in Livestrong Foundation Community Impact Project

The YMCA of Metropolitan Chattanooga will take part in the Livestrong Foundation Community Impact Project that involves an online voting program through March 28.

A news release said the project will provide funding to organizations to put into effect programs that have shown success in the lives of those affected by cancer.

The YMCA here will get funding to implement Livestrong at the YMCA and can get added funding through the online voting, the release said.

It said the Livestrong at the YMCA program is one that is research based and gives those affected by cancer "a safe, supportive environment to participate in physical and social activities focused on strengthening the whole person."

"We are thrilled and honored to participate in the Livestrong Foundation's Community Impact Project," Janet Dunn, CEO/President of the YMCA of Metropolitan Chattanooga, said. "We share their passion for inspiring and empowering people affected by cancer and look forward to working together to make a difference in the lives of cancer survivors and their families. Our Y will use this funding to provide a supportive environment for our neighbors, friends and families who are living with the effects of cancer."

Livestrong Foundation was founded in 1997 by Lance Armstrong, who earlier this year stepped down as chairman in the wake of dopping allegations in connection with his professional cycling career.
