Tennessee's jobless rate rises in February

Tennessee's unemployment rate in February went up a tenth of a percent from January, reaching 7.8 percent.

The national jobless rate for February was 7.7 percent.

Tennessee Labor and Workforce Development Interim Commissioner Burns Phillips said the rate last month was the lowest for a February since 2008.

He also noted that the latest figure represented a decline from 8 percent in the past year.

Total nonfarm employment increased 11,400 jobs from January to February (seasonally adjusted), the report said.
