After climbing back into the black last month, Erlanger Health System fell into the red in February, posting a $2 million loss in its February financial statements.

A downturn in hospital admissions contributed to the shortfall, with patient admissions under budget 14 percent for the month - and under the previous year by 7 percent.

The losses came across the public hospital's service lines, coming under budget in surgical patients, physician practice visits, and cath lab procedures. Orthopedic, neurosurgery, and heart surgeries were all reported under budget.

Year to date the hospital has posted $4.5 million in losses. Despite the deficit, the hospital is still faring better than it was at this time during its last fiscal year, when it had lost over $13 million.
